Casts are much lighter than they were the last time I broke my wrist. The orthopedic doctor first puts a mesh 'glove' over my arm, then wraps it with cotton for cushioning. The final wrap is an acrylic material that is dampened, rolled and smoothed on, and then quickly dries to a strong, hard cast.
