Not For The Squeamish

This is what happened when I hit the brakes on my bike over sand! My wrist broke in two places and boy did it hurt, I don't recommend it!

Granny Shower

A granny shower is given in the absence of a mom. In this case Patricia is the granny-to-be and the future mom is in Australia. What do you do at baby showers? You taste baby food, yuck! Here's Sharon trying to feed Yvonne, double yuck!

What A Palapa!

Wiley and Carol just had a new Palapa added to their patio and it is absolutely gorgeous! Brian, Fern, myself and Wiley may have been the first to enjoy a glass of wine under it, but then again, maybe not!

The Making

The intricacies of making a Palapa are pretty incredible. The weaving, the invisible nails and the tie downs are so very cool. We hope to have a palapa just like this one when we grow up!

Segundas

Segundas are second hand stores and soooooo much fun! Fern and I headed out this morning and hit several that are lined up all along the main highway out of town. I wish I could have captured the dust cloud that Fern created when she sat in this old chair! Fern found some goodies and I found a fantastic rug. Ha! Can't wait to go back!

The Champion!!!!!

Good job, Carla! This game we play goes by alot of names and they are all bad! A very frustrating game to play, you can be leading right up until the end and then someone comes along and takes it away! Doug and Carla have taught us a new game called "Nil" which is also fun but somehow not as frustrating. The challenge continues!

Fresh O.J.

Most people think of "Tropicana" when they think of orange juice, we think about heading to the end of our street where everyday fresh squeezed juice is sold for $25.00 pesos per litre. There is Steve now, yum!

Pool Sharks

Before Marv and Ardy took off we visited the local pool hall, aka Roadhouse, for a few games of pool which cost a whopping ten pesos per game.
The Roadhouse offers "chope" which is a draft beer and very unusual in La Paz. Marv and Ardy have been gone a week now and we sure miss them!

Competition

Looks like some bucko likes Steve!

All We Do Is Eat

Well, for a "throw-together" dinner this turned out pretty darn good! The carnitas tacos were yummy, Steve's spicy pico de gallo was a big hit and even though the flan flopped it was still tasty! The food may not be five star but, from left to right Bill, Linda, Steve, Carla, Doug and Christina didn't seem to mind. We will just have to keep trying til we get it right!

Love "Impromptu"!

This past Wednesday Carla and Doug arrived with a delicious Thai dish she concocted! We threw a salad together opened a nice bottle of wine and it was a dinner party! Going around the table there was Carla, Doug, Steve, Brian and Glenn. The spicy chicken dish is definitely a "do again"! What's for dinner next Wednesday?

Dia De Los Reyes

We just got back from our very first "Dia De Los Reyes" Celebration at Judy and Alex's. In a nutshell it is tradition to gather friends, make hot chocolate to serve with a "rosca" (very yummy sweet bread). The bread is baked with little baby Jesus's in it and whoever cuts into or ends up with a baby in their bread has the honor of hosting a tamale feed for all those present! The tamale feed takes place February 2nd.

For a more detailed version, http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/ss/history_culture/106829.php

Our hostess, Judy, Roz (who actually cut for George) and I all found babies in our bread so we will share the expense and pleasure of hosting the tamale feed.

She's Baaaaaack

Just picked Christina up at the airport, and guess what? No return ticket!!! So, Christina says it's warmer here than in St. Louis! Welcome home Christina!

There's Some Kids I'd Like You To Meet

Troy Michael: The latest addition! Who would have ever thought Kim and Mike would be Grandparents! Does he not look adorable all wrapped up like a Tamale?
Rylan and Keenan: My grandsons who love to play hard, make noise and get into trouble!
